Scènes de Ménages

Aix en Provence

5 Jan

On one not so special day, I found myself wandering through Aix with a pocket full of coins and 45 minutes left on my laundry. It’s so rare for me to have a day free with absolutely rien à faire (though if we’re being honest I probably could have found something), so I spent my time walking around taking pictures of small, hidden, forgotten corners of Aix.

Half inspired by one of my favorite Instagrammers and half by boredom, I walked down alleys and small side streets in search of treasures…not hard to find when you do your laundry across the street from where Paul Cezanne died. I’m still wondering how many times he walked in his door; what my lavérie was when he lived there.

I’ve found that no matter where I move, it takes some time to feel completely à l’aise and stop to enjoy the mundane scenery. I’m so happy to have reached that moment now, when I still have five months to enjoy in Aix. ♦

Also: if you read this today (sorry if you live in France and are already asleep but buy it regardless) one of my favorite bloggers Janice MacLeod is selling her Kindle book of Paris Letters for only $2–today only! She has been such an inspiration to me (and is why I started my own watercolor journal!), so I highly recommend it!
