What Happens When You're Not Looking…

Paris· Wanderlusting

17 Jan

Before going any further, go watch this clip.

Today, the metro from school to my apartment was closed down.  The screens in the metro station said it was a “l’incident,” which could mean many things in Paris.  For a while we all thought it was a grève, but I don’t think that was the case.  After trying to ask the police who roped up the station what was going on, we gave up and decided to find another metro.  So, we began to walk towards the Trocadero stop, right in front of the Eiffel Tower.  Too bad my navigation isn’t as good as it should be…

I ended up on a bridge, looked around and people started screaming “This is the bridge from Inception!”  False.  That was the bridge that was first in Last Tango in Paris (as seen in the clip).

Putting my movie pretentiousness aside, this keeps happening to me.  Walking along, minding my own business, and then suddenly hit by huge monuments or famous buildings.  Unlike tourists, I don’t even try to find the Eiffel Tower.  It finds me.  Which allowed me to bring these pictures to you…

After that, I wandered along the Seine for a while, kind of looking for a metro but more actively looking for les Bateaux Mouches.  I’m pretty sure I might take that detour everyday…

This sounds like an amazing day. I lol’d at the Inception bridge. I like the swag you’ve developed in Le Fronze. You run that city!!!!

I realize that it’s a reflection of my age and a depressingly degenerate culture, but I found the “Last Tango” video attachment offensive on several levels and was disappointed that you included it in your post.

I was wondering if anyone was going to comment on the nature of the clip, rest assured I included it only for cultural and navigational purposes, not for the content within the clip. Sorry to offend!

When I would walk home from work in the summer I used to pass this bar and dreamt today it was still open and still loud, with people spilling onto the sidewalk. I miss you, New York. ❤️
