A Picnic at Gravelly Point

Washington

11 Aug

Remember earlier in the summer when I made a bucket list of everything I had yet to do in Washington? I have been pretty terrible at facilitating it myself, but I have pretty amazing friends who organized a picnic for me yesterday at Gravelly Point.

For new and non-Washingtonians, Gravelly Point is a park in Virginia that borders the Potomac River and National Airport. Every few minutes, planes fly close overhead in preparation for landing only a few hundred feet away. It also has a beautiful view of DC’s “skyline;” the monument, the Capitol, and the Jefferson Memorial are all visible from one vantage point.

The planes flew low, the wind blew hard, and everyone cooked and ate delicious food and drank delicious wine. In short, a perfect celebration.

I am so incredibly lucky to have such a good group of friends, who have all been around anytime I needed to vent and/or mass text. And I wouldn’t trade them for anything. ♦grav10

When I would walk home from work in the summer I used to pass this bar and dreamt today it was still open and still loud, with people spilling onto the sidewalk. I miss you, New York. ❤️
