Anti-Resolutions (But Definitely Pro-Sparkles)

Washington

1 Jan

NY

I don’t make resolutions. Partially because I know just enough about myself to know that 1. I hate to follow rules and 2. I am a terrible planner. But I have been acting out of character lately (um hello, I just spent a week doing a deep clean of my room because I wanted to. what?!) and have decided that 2014 is the year I need to map things out and stop moping around like a college student on a ramen diet (even though that is what I ate during my past three days of sickness).

Maybe it’s because I have a brand new sparkly planner, or maybe it’s because I have a lot of things that I already have planned for 2014. Really, though, it’s probably because I want an excuse to craft and use my new gold pen. I have so much I want to read, so much I need to write, and too many ideas floating around in my head to remember them all at once, though I will undoubtedly try. I have always thought of resolutions as chores that people force themselves to do because of the faux tabula rasa that arrives with the ball drop, but this morning my friend Zach said his resolution was to “enjoy breakfast more.” If there is anything I believe in in this world, it is for sure treat yo self–so hopefully my “resolutions” will be reflective of that. If not, I’ll have a really pretty craft with generic words of inspiration on it, so win-win?

I’m off now to break out my pen and maybe even my cats-in-costumes stickers if I am feeling really crazy. We’ll see what I come up with! Have you made any resolutions? Do you ever?
