Daddy's Little Girl

Paris· Wanderlusting

7 Feb

Anyone who has seen my dad in the past few years knows one thing–he WILL beat you in a race.  He goes running everyday, runs in marathons, and gets fun things like water bottle belts for Christmas and his birthday.

A few of my friends have been planning a trip to Greece for spring break.  My current au moins une baguette a day diet isn’t really conducive for bikini season, so today I decided to go for a run.  It worked for Jon, right?

So, I embarked on my mission.  Before I left, I read on the weather channel that Paris has 5 sunny days in January…my guess is it’s not much higher for February.  However, today was one of those days where we just couldn’t sit inside.

I began running down the street just outside my apartment and headed towards Parc Monceau, only three metro stops away from our apartment.  On my way, I discovered where all the stereotypical cafes and patisseries had been hiding from me.  I got to the park, which was much bigger than I expected, and joined the laps of fellow runners.

I was looking around, trying to avoid running over small children when suddenly I realized where I was, and how close I was to the L’Arc de Triomphe.  Because there it was, just up the street.

I probably should have realized how close I lived to the Champs Elysees based on the number of metro stops it takes to get there, but we all know I’m not good with navigation(someone asked me one time why all my stories begin with “I got lost the other day and…”).  So I ran, awkwardly starstruck(I hate when that happens) amongst elementary schoolers playing with nannies in the afternoon. I would have taken a picture, but naturally I left my camera at home the one time I wanted it…you’ll just have to trust me.

Benefit?  Now I have an incentive to go running.  Unfortunately I think my food budget might help me get ready for spring break faster, too bad baguettes are still the cheapest thing to eat in Paris.

So proud to hear you went running. Stay with it, the pain will go away and it will get easier. It is a great way of enjoying the scenery.
