En Attendant Wifi (Yes, I am Alive)

Aix en Provence

9 Oct

Oh what a week (or two) it has been. So sorry for the delay, but my Freebox (aka wi-fi, aka the key to the universe) hasn’t even been put in the mail yet, which is nothing short of torture.

I finally have a bank account (yet no bank card or checks or money in the account, so I’m not sure if it counts), a library card, and one watercolor in my journal–the first of many to come. We went to Marseille earlier this week for training and then they set us loose to teach, or rather, to drink rosé in the resto-u.

Today was my first day actually observing classes. I know I was not speaking French as well as they are speaking English when I was their age (or at least if I were, no one told me). Seriously impressive. I saw a presentation on Harry Potter (the prompt was “Scotland”…I think I’ll get along with them just fine), was asked how many kids I want to have, and talked about slavery, 9/11, and the Holocaust all in two hours (the last part brought about by explaining buildings on the National Mall and the Pentagon). I am a renaissance assistant, filled with wisdom of elementary school American history lessons–next week is Schoolhouse Rock.

this is the library are you joking

Malheureusement, I am just getting over a cold–which I am convinced is from all the bising–but I can’t wait to tell you all about the book market we found on Sunday right next to my apartment and the salon du thé where maybe I will just live for the next seven months. Also maybe a post about my search for the best baguette in Aix. On va voir.

A la prochaine. (Cross your fingers I will get wifi soon I am dying.)

So far you are doing great! I love the pictures and your written word. Tell me, is it cold there now? It’s still warm here. If I wanted to send you a little cash, what would be the best way to go about it? My dear friend Betty and I have been spending Monday afternoon at Michelle Nunn’s headquarters. Michelle is Betty’s niece and we really want her to win the US Senate race. Her opponent is a real jerk named Perdue who thinks he knows everything.
    I love you, Classy

It is still warm here! Today we went to the beach 🙂 It will be around 70 all this week…perfect! You’re so sweet to want to send me money…I think maybe Paypal might be the easiest way? I’m sure GD is thrilled about your extracurriculars 😉
