Expectations are for the Naive

Today, I visited Paris I, La Sorbonne.

I’ve been looking forward to this ever since I saw this (promise it’s appropriate this time! 😉 also I hope you speak French or have seen this movie with subtitles). I’ve always thought of the Sorbonne as classical French education and was so excited to see it…and it wasn’t only because I wanted to be the next Jean Seberg (though preferably with a better French accent).

However, did you know there is more than one location for the Sorbonne? And we went to the other one. The one that isn’t beautiful outside. In fact, it looked more like an inner-city high school.

We went up to the seventh floor after getting lost multiple times (quel surprise!) and found the course lists. That particular Sorbonne is the one that offers history and art history, which I was interested in taking. I was looking at the schedule for a History of Cinema class, because as far as I know the others wouldn’t even come close to getting me credit in the major.

We left the area (did I mention it took us an hour to get there? I wasn’t even the one leading the group!) and headed back to Passy. I talked to a girl in one of my classes who told me about the Paris III tour tomorrow, which is located in St. Germain. That sounds like something I’d be interested in much more. I’m about to look at the catalogue, but I know they offer literature, which would make transferring credits beaucoup plus simple!

We’ll see how that visit goes, this is kind of like looking for college all over again. For the third time!

Afterwards, we went back to the NYU center for free sandwiches that came along with a dating and sexuality in Paris workshop…proof that free food exists for college students everywhere if you know where to look!
